Ultracore is a Sega Mega Drive action game similar to Contra or Turrican, developed by Digital Illusions. It is an aftermarket release based on Hardcore, which was licensed for release by Sega back in the day but went unreleased by the original publisher, Psygnosis.

The Mega Drive version of Hardcore is known to have been "99% completed", but was cancelled when publisher Psygnosis cancelled all of its Mega Drive projects to shift its focus to the PlayStation. Digital Illusions (now known as DICE) have been keen for many years to see this game released in some form, even entering discussions with Sony (who now owns Psygnosis) in 2010, which at first appeared to have gone nowhere.

The game was finally announced in August 2018 to be finished and released by German publisher Strictly Limited Games, with originals release plans stated for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita. In a later announcement, the game was rebranded as Ultracore for “licensing reasons”.
